Handing out food packages

Where most people in Uganda were able to keep their heads above water before Corona and provide their families with at least 1 meal a day, this is no longer the case in the middle of last year and all this due to job loss and not being able to go to work (by public transport) or looking for 1 of the few scarce jobs.

That is why we started distributing food packages that consist of the basics: beans, cornmeal and soap.
The packages are provided per family (and the larger the family, the larger the amount), the food is bought in Uganda, is distributed by 2 Ugandan cooperation partners and is good for about 4 to 5 weeks = two to three meals a day for all family members for the duration of a few months (as long as necessary).

In November I apply to the Afas foundation with the request to expand from 13 families to 100 families for the duration of 6 months. Within two days I get a call: a short question about the budget and a comment: ‘normally we don’t do emergency aid’ (no, not Make the next step either) ‘but now the world is on fire so application approved’Although

the distribution is going well, it is also time-consuming: making a budget, the board having to approve the budget, the time it takes to get the money in Uganda, the distribution of the packages, then all receipts returned as ‘accountability’ and then the next package. That is why I am going to Uganda at the end of February to help with the spread; This saves time and (bank transaction) costs.

Of course I will keep you informed!

  • Food packages for the current families and expand to 100 families for 6 months. V
  • Transport, petrol, bank transaction costs V

Total: 100 Families
