Cool!
Who is the woman and face behind Make The Next Step?
I would like to introduce myself:
Until the end of 2018, I combined my job as (interim) location manager in childcare with volunteer work in Africa.
It was a great combination for me that kept my passion for children and people and my commercial and social slant in balance for a long time.
Until I realized that I wanted to do more for and in Uganda, because that is the African country where I lost my heart and that has everything to do with the mentality of the people there. But where do you find an employer who is happy for you to go to Uganda regularly to “do your thing in Africa”?
I took a drastic decision and entered into discussions with my employer and after two constructive conversations, we agreed that we would part ways and that I could focus on my own business for the benefit of Uganda.
Knowing what you want but not quite how, that mentality is reflected in Pippi’s quote: I have never tried that before, so I think I should definitely be able to do that.
My experience is that if you have a good plan that is not only good for yourself but also for other people, then “the Universe lends a helping hand”
Then people come your way who help you further and as long as the focus is clear and you can really see what you want, then everything will be fine.
After almost 25 years, I left childcare to do more for and in Uganda. When I tell this, the answer is often: Cool!
When I thought about my own four most important values and those of MakeTheNextStep, I quickly came up with: personal, authentic, smooth and cool.
So with that cool Pippi mentality I am going to do many beautiful things for and in Uganda.
Or as many people tell me: a woman with a mission. And that…that is true!
